As people of the empiricism orientation claim, the environment or the concept of nurture plays a very significant role in shaping the abilities and capacities of the individual. Thus, the individual’s ability to adjust or adapt to life conditions are as a result of the processes of learning and experience he or she has had from the interactions within the environment which influences his or her decision making.
With an inference from this, the environment creates situational conditions for individuals to contend with in their developmental process.
However, irrespective of how bad or good a life circumstance may be the success pendulum swing or rate of an individual is dependent on the decisions made by him or her.
Moreover, I would like to emphasize on the optional choices one has when bedeviled or confronted with any circumstance of life. Whatever circumstantial happening an individual encounters in life, he or she has two options to make in response to the circumstance, namely: Choosing to be
A victim of the situation or circumstance.
A learner of the situation or circumstance.
The former occurs when the individual tends to see the situational happening as a life-turn-around or a completely empty cup instead of recognizing the possibility potential of making the situation surmountable or seeing the cup as half full. As a result, feels sad and completely broken down without any aptitude and capacity of making any good out of that circumstance and as such tend to adopt a lamenting attitude as if that circumstantial happening is the worst and first ever occurrence in this world of ours.
This gives rise to the WHY series of questioning such as WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME? , WHY DIDN’T IT HAPPEN TO MY FRIEND/BROTHER/SISTER WHO IS RICHER BUT ME?; and thus, resort to the optimum participation in the BLAME GAME. When this happens, he or she tends to blame or attribute the cause of the circumstantial happening to people instead of holding him or herself responsible for the happening to pave way for a further probe or situational learning of the situation to ensure a surmountable alternative. This makes the individual unable to recognize the circumstance as surmountable and thereby, forms the basis of the individual’s failure in that life endeavor.
The latter option tends to see the cup as half full or the possibility to favorably turn the circumstance around to be an opportunity. Thus, individuals of this choice orientation tend to see every life circumstance as surmountable and thus, follow up with a HOW series of questioning to arrive at the best solution to the circumstance. An instance of this set of questions is HOW DO I SOLVE THIS? to give one a number of alternative solutions for a further consideration to select the best alternative.
THIS IS THE SITUATIONAL CHOICE ATTITUDE OF ACHIEVERS AND GREAT LEADERS.
With a stem from this, I now entreat all my dear readers to always see the cup or bottle as half full irrespective of how adverse life circumstances may be, so as to be able to turn every situational happening into an opportunity for a very fascinating and more rewarding effects at the end.
Always remember that, in every life situation, you got two choices; either to be a victim or to learn from it.
Seize this missive and practice for it to be part of you and bear in mind that YOU ARE A PRODUCT OF YOUR OWN DECISIONS because anything can happen to you in the process of life but the choices you make, determines who you become so therefore,
man is indeed a victim of circumstance and a product of choice.
