Three Simple Environment Friendly Practices You Can Do at Home
Saving the environment can sound like a very huge feat made only for scientists who know about the science of nature. But the truth is saving the environment is all about being aware of the effects that our everyday activities create on our surroundings. And if we do find out that we are creating more harm than good to the world, it is a matter of exchanging these habits for a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. So if you think it's about time you do your part, then here are some simple tips that you can follow:
Tip # 1: Learn to conserve energy. There are several ways that you can be more environmentally friendly when it comes to electricity use at home. One of the simplest things that you can do is to turn off home appliances that you do not use. The fewer appliances you use, the less electricity you burn. Aside from that, you can also start buying energy efficient appliances. These kinds of appliances work very much the same way but use less electricity. You can also start switching to light bulbs with smaller wattages which also consume less electricity. What makes this so important? Electricity is generated by fossil fuel burning which in turn produces greenhouse gases that fuel global warming. The less electricity is used, the less fossil fuel is burned.
Tip # 2: Be a smart buyer. You are probably going to buy several new things for your home within a year or even a month. And the more you buy, the more things you are bound to throw out. Thus, if you want to lessen the amount of garbage you contribute, then it is best that you cut the buying to a minimum - buy only the things that you need. If you have a well working appliance, then try not to give in to that urge to buy the latest model. Aside from that, learn to patronize products that are made out of recycles packaging; these products do not make use of new substance but instead get their resources from environmentally friendly and recycled materials.
Tip # 3: Be your own recycling plant. You might be surprised at how useful the things you throw away could still be. So if you do not want to be more environmentally friendly and not be a huge waste contributor, make use of the things that you are supposed to throw away - and believe me, there are many other ways to get rid of those unused furniture other than throwing them out as trash. For clothes or unused furniture, you can sell them in a yard sale and let some other people make use of them. Or if you feel the Christmas spirit early in the year, then you can simple give these away to centers or orphanages that need it.
So there you have it, 3 tips - environmentally friendly practices that you can do right at home. They are simple, practical and effective. Now you can help save the environment without even leaving your doors!
